Danny Rising Sr. was known as a pioneer in the technology industry in the upstate of South Carolina. Owning the first computer company in Spartanburg/Greenville area in the early 1980’s. MicroTech Computer Systems Inc. where he employed 15 Engineers at one time and supporting the upstate of South Carolina. During this time MTCS had the most experienced network/system engineers on staff with experienced Certified Novell Engineers and Microsoft Certified System Experts. MTCS built their own custom-built computers, and most businesses in the upstate used MTCS in some fashion.
During this time Danny Sr also owned another business called Rising Distributors Incorporated. This was an Hewlett-Packard Distribution Center, that serviced the South East of the US. It was successful for a short period, but during this time, the National Sales of HP was working on a buy direct program, that ended up undercutting the distribution centers nationwide and they had no choice to close down.
Danny Sr. also owned a business called Office Management Solutions. This was a training facility with paid instructors that taught office employees for various business accounting, bookkeeping, and other products that were started to be needed in the industry. He sold Office Management Solutions that later became one of the bigger national chains for office training.
In the mid 90’s business was changing, and Danny Sr. had to evolve with it. Hardware was becoming more available and name brand computers like IBM were becoming more affordable for businesses, along with other companies like Dell. So Danny Sr. evolved from becoming a hardware reseller to a solutions provider, and a break/fix business.
Danny Sr. closed MicroTech Computer Systems and started Rising Network Consulting. Where he become a network consultant for various businesses in the upstate. His philosophy was that he needed to not be a repair person for business, but a business consultant, and advise businesses on their technology needs to support their business, and to help businesses evolve in the world ever changing technology.
In 2013 Danny Sr. was diagnosed with ALS, and never gave up the fight, he passed away in 2018 from ALS. He was always be remember for his innovated mind, and never giving up. A Family first person for his grandchildren, that never gave up, and evolved with everything around him. From when he was a teenager until he passed, he was always taking care of others. Dropping out of high school to help his parents, serving in the US Army, working at Michelin, selling houses, while starting his own business. When asked does he have any regrets about serving in the military with his ALS diagnosis, when it was linked as a possibility. He said “I been blessed, I have been able to do more than most, the Army gave me more than I gave them.”

Danny Rising, II who was referred to as “little Danny” growing up. Is not so little no more. Little Danny wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps. This was his opportunity to spend quality time with his dad, and he soaked it up. Danny Jr. as young as eight years old was spending all his time at MicroTech Computers with his dad, and all the other engineers and technicians. Danny Jr. would say he could build a computer before he could drive a car. He would get off the school bus on Wade Hampton and walk down to his store across the road from Tabs Flea Market to work on computers as young as 7th grade.
In high school when on career days people would ask what are you going to do when you grow up and his answer would always be own a computer company, and work with my dad. Danny Jr. went to Foothills Career Center in high school, and earned top of his computer class earning a small scholarship for college. But after discussions with Danny Sr. he wanted to follow in his footsteps and go into the Army, where he would become a signal support specialist. Which would be equivalent to a computer technician.
It was important to Danny Sr. that Danny Jr. learned the ropes in the business world, and believed he could not do that just coming in right away and work with him directly. After Danny Jr. left the Army, he came home and worked for a few smaller businesses working as a Network Administrator. Earning his A+ Certification, and Certified Novell Engineer.
In 1999 Danny Jr. was offered a job with First Union as their Novell Engineer in Charlotte, NC, where he was dedicated support for Capital Markets and Securities, during this time he become interested in Cisco networking, and earned all of the certifications through Cisco, and Microsoft, and become a lead for the Securities department supporting Capital Markets and stockbrokers. Heading up the team to help migrate and merge technologies from First Union and Wachovia.
In 2001, Danny applied for an upper management position Wachovia, where he did not get the position not because of his technical background but because he did not have a Degree. Danny Jr. a lot like his father, believed you only going to beat me once. So with in a few weeks he was in enrolled in college where started working on his degree in Computer Technologies and Business Administration. He then went on to get his second degree in Information Security where he started seeing their was a much bigger need in security and compliance.
Danny Jr. had the ambition to bring to the Small business the same standards that he had done for Wachovia. So after discussions with Danny Sr. and working with another IT consulting firm.
Danny Sr. told him that he was at the age where he personally did not want to start something new, but would support him if he did. In 2005 Danny Jr. elected to start Rising Technology Solutions, where the focus was on Managed Services, Compliance, and Security.
When Danny Sr. became ill with ALS in 2013, not knowing how aggressive ALS would be Danny Jr. started to acquire Danny Sr. customer and working to bring them into a Managed Services Solution.
After Danny Sr. passed away, Danny Jr. elected to bring both concepts of what they both did. Changing the name to SmartTech Consulting.
